Master of Social Work (MSW)
A Master of Social Work postgraduate degree program focusses on the core skills to work in a society. The curriculum emphasizes social work values, principles and methods that enable students to adopt strategies and interventions for creating positive workplaces, healthy employees and strong communities. With the right mix of theory, research and field work practicums, the graduates are well-equipped and therefore continue to be the ‘graduates of choice ‘among our key stakeholders.
The MSW program also sensitizes students to develop global perspectives and the impact of transnational corporations and institutions in dealing with problems and concerns limiting individual motivation, performance and well-being. The core aspect of the MSW program is its field work placement or internship where in MSW graduates are placed into field work assignments and projects in variety of settings.
Why study MSW?
The Department offers MSW programme with specializations in community development, Human Resource management and Medical Psychiatric Social Work. Apart from being imparted with theoretical knowledge, the students of MSW undergo practical training in various Governmental and Non- Governmental organization, industries and hospitals. The field work programme is adopted to enable the students to acquire professional skills, attitude, values, ethics and commitment. The students attend their field work every week with field work agency. The MSW programme includes field work, rural camp, study tour, village work, street theatre, and internship as part of the curriculum and it is compulsory for all the students. A degree in social work provides a wide variety of career paths which includes HR Mangers, Development Managers, CSR Manager, Labor welfare officers, Child Protection officer, Project coordinator, Program Manager, Public Relation Officers, Counsellors, Research Assistants, Transplant coordinator Community Mobiliser, School Social Worker, documentation & Communication officer, Consultant Social Worker and Case Manager.
